Description
Created to generate excitement for the release of the redesigned 1963 Corvette, the Mako Shark I concept car was the brainchild of GM Design Chief Bill Mitchell. According to lore, Mitchell patterned the car after a shark he had caught on a deep-sea fishing trip. After several failed attempts to match the complex coloring, rumor has it that his paint staff finally gained approval by secretly â??borrowingâ? the fish and repainting it to match the car. Gracefully fading from blue-gray above to silver-white below, the Mako Shark I captured both the beautiful yet menacing appearance of its real-life namesake and the hearts of Corvette lovers everywhere.
