Description
Fitted with wheels, floats, or skis, the Stinson Reliant was a versatile favorite with sportsmen, business executives, and bush pilots. The intoduction of a double-trpered wing design in 1936 earned it the nickname “Gull Wing.” A more powerful SR Reliant – the AT-19 – served with the British Royal Navy during World War II. But the Reliant’s most dramatic and innovative service was providing airmail to small cities. Specially equipped airplanes snatched and dropped 100-pound mail sacks while making low passes above a marked spot or ground rig.
The propeller spins and the front wheels turn.
