First seen in 1947, the legendary LIONEL GG-1 is one of the most popular locomotives in the companyâ??s nearly 100-year history. It is patterned after the Pennsylvania Railroad GG-1 Electric Locomotive developed in the 1930â??s to speed passenger trains through the northeastern rail corridors. Pennsy Electrics earned a reputation for efficiency, toughness and dependability for more than 50 years. The solid-stripe Brunswick green paint scheme was used for a generation.
